A19-year-old girl from Greater Noida’s Dadri district studying in Babson College in Massachusetts was killed in a road accident while she was on her way to Bulandshahr on a two-wheeler. The girl, Sudeeksha Bhaati, was back in India for vacations and was supposed to return to the US on August 20.

The victim’s family has alleged that while she was on her way with her uncle on a scooty, two men on a motorbike started following them. “The men were passing comments on Sudeeksha and were trying to overtake her and do stunts. Suddenly, their motorbike hit Sudeeksha’s Scooty and it lost balance. Sudeeksha died on the spot,” said Satendra Bhaati, the student’s uncle.

Police reached the spot following the accident. “The body has been sent for post mortem and the case is being investigated,” said Atul Srivastava, Superintendent of Police (city).

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has condemned the incident and demanded action against the culprits. Taking to Twitter, she said, “The promising student Sudeeksha Bhaati, who was going on a bike with her uncle in Bulandshahar, lost her life due to the eve-teasing, which is extremely sad, embarrassing and very condemnable. How will daughters progress? BSP strongly demands that UP government should take strict legal action against the culprits immediately.”

Belonging to a poor family, Sudeeksha was a promising student as she had topped in her 12th exams from Bulandshahr district and was studying in the US on a scholarship of Rs 3.80 crore. She had studied from Basic Shiksha Department school till class five and got admission through an entrance in HCL’s school in Sikandrabad. After her schooling, she was selected for higher studies by the school and given a scholarship.
