Strictly Implement Amended Motor Vehicles Act, Say Road Safety Activists

September 19, 2019 by saferoads Leave a Comment

Pune: The death of spine surgeon Ketan Khurjekar and a cab driver on Pune-Mumbai Expressway yet again underscores the need for strict implementation of the amended Motor Vehicles Act , 2019, road safety activists said on Monday.

State transport minister Diwakar Raote said, “Even if the new Act was implemented in the state, could the unfortunate accident (that killed Khurjekar) have been avoided?” Raote’s comment has irked activists. Ranjit Gadgil of NGO Parisar said the fine amount must be commensurate with the violation. Piyush Tewari of SaveLIFE Foundation said, “Steeper fines combined with better enforcement will certainly deter road violations.”
