Tirupati: Chittoor district police have started a special drive aimed at ensuring road safety for students travelling in private transport.
Based on the advice of Chittoor SP S Senthil Kumar, various police sub-divisions have taken up the special drive to sensitise school managements, private transport operators and students to strictly adhere to guidelines laid out by the police department.
As part of the special drive which started on December 8, cops are checking the fitness and condition of school buses, autos and other modes of transportation used by students across the district. Vehicle documents including insurance papers, antecedents of the drivers etc are other aspects being looked into by cops.
Speaking to reporters, Kumar said, “all drivers engaged by schools and colleges must have valid drivers’ licence and they must ensure that vehicles engaged by them to ferry students are in proper condition. If a road mishap were to occur because of the poor condition of the vehicle or because of the driver’s negligence, police will initiate legal action against the driver as well as the educational institution.”
