Road Safety: Students Urge People to Obey Traffic Rules

January 17, 2020 by saferoads Leave a Comment

With a view to averting the deadly accidents reported almost every day on the city roads due to rash and negligent driving, several road safety programmes were observed to mark the 31st National Road Safety Week. The Social Welfare and Health Care Society in collaboration with Amritsar Traffic Police and BBKDAV College held an awareness rally on two wheelers and also distributed helmets to girl students. Khalsa College Public School too observed the day with an awareness programme.

Mount Litera Zee School (MLZS), Amritsar, collaborated with the Amritsar Traffic Police, to hold an awareness campaign, to educate the masses about the importance of observing traffic rules. Raising slogans like ‘Safety is better than speed’, ‘accidents hurt, safety doesn’t’, students from Mount Litera Zee School held a rally titled ‘United for Road Safety’ at the Bhandari Bridge. They urged the people to observe the traffic rules in the interests of their own safety and that of other commuters as well, while delivering talks on the occasion.

Students rewarded ‘Safe Drivers’ with tokens on the behalf of MLZS, besides conferring certificates of appreciation on traffic cops, who spend long hours in maintaining decorum on the city’s chaotic roads, and distributing helmets among drivers, who do not wear safety gear while driving. Auto drivers were also apprised of the importance of observing traffic rules in the interests of their own safety and that of the others as well.

“The overpass connects the old city with the new one, and is one of the busiest junctions of the city, synonymous with aggravating traffic snarls. Hence, it is an ideal place for conducting such drives,” said Manjot Dhillon, director, Mount Litera Zee School, Amritsar.
