The roads of Dubai are at high speed and all those who drive on these roads should beware of the rules of the road. There are heavy fines for breaking traffic rules – however, people seem to flout these rules all the time. It’s not good. Mainly because these rules are not there just for fun. They guarantee our security and those close to us.
The Eyes on You survey by YouGov involved 1,869 parents across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Lebanon. Infiniti Middle East conducted this investigation in which they understood the following very frightening facts:
44% of parents admit breaking traffic rules when they feel they are not being watched
• 40% of parents admit to making phone calls or consulting social networks while driving with children
• 43% of parents are most likely to break traffic rules when in a hurry
18% of parents said they were “more likely to violate traffic rules if there were no cameras in place. 16% admitted to driving dangerously when there was no way to be monitored, and 10% when there was no police in sight. “
The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai, aka RTA, has several traffic awareness campaigns targeting the education of children and adolescents.
“Over the years, RTA has created a number of projects, plans and initiatives to improve road safety and raise awareness of a positive road safety culture in Dubai”, Deema Hussein, Senior Director of Road Safety Awareness traffic, Traffic Department of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) was cited.
Caring for our children is only a natural responsibility. So it’s pretty scary that a lot of us don’t really focus on driving safety while we have our kids with us. There are high-speed roads, at-risk drivers and social media, and taking phone calls is a huge distraction. If you are a motorist in Dubai, please agree to be safer and not to be distracted while driving!
