Rash and negligent driving continued to claim more lives on the streets of Sangam City compared to neighbouring districts of the range, including Pratapgarh, Kaushambi and Fatehpur.
Statistics revealed by the range police on Friday showed that as many as 335 people lost their lives in separate cases of road mishaps in Prayagraj between January 1 and September 15 this year, while figure for Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi stood at 185, 220 and 121, respectively.
Data also claimed that a total of 743 cases of road mishap cases were reported in Prayagraj district, whereas Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi districts recorded 276, 369 and 235 cases of road mishaps, respectively.
Range traffic police authorities have mooted a plan to continuously monitor road safety measures as well as reviewing the status of accident prone areas, also known as black spots.
Data claimed that there were 127 road accidents reported in January month, while 116, 104, 26,81,96,74,76 and 43 cases were recorded in February, March, April, May, June, July, August and September, respectively, in Prayagraj district.
In Prayagraj district alone, 52 people died in January while 47,47, seven, 41, 45, 37, 39 and 20 people lost their lives in February, March, April, May, June, July, August and September, respectively.
Similarly, as many as 485 people were also injured in separate cases of road mishaps including January (85), February (82), March (64), April (21), May (47), June (65), July (50), August (45) and September (26), respectively.
The Sangam City currently has a total of 98 black spots and the numbers are likely to be increased.
IG, Prayagraj range, K P Singh said, “Senior traffic police authorities are focussing on various awareness and educational activities to promote road safety measures among the commuters and bring down cases of road accidents.”
He added that traffic police authorities are also interacting with commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, seeking their active cooperation to make city streets safe for commuting.
Apart from Prayagraj, Fatehpur recorded 220 road mishap deaths and 208 persons injured in 369 cases of road mishaps.
