Pilibhit: A 45-year-old, Ramkumar of Devipura village, was mowed down by a speeding truck at the Pilibhit-Richha road junction on Bareilly-Hardwar national highway 74 on Monday morning.
Ramkumar was on his way to Jahanabad on a bike to get a priest for performing rituals at his home on the occasion of Durga Navami when the accident took place.
Police sent the body for autopsy.
According to locals, the T-point has witnessed many fatal accidents in the recent past and needs to be declared as “accident zone”.
Pilibhit assistant regional transport officer Amitabh Rai said he would ensure more safety measures at the T-point to curb accidents.
Jahanabad police station officiating SHO kamlesh Kumar said an FIR was registered against the unidentified truck driver under sections 304A (death caused by negligence), 279 (rash driving on public way), 338 (causing grievous hurt) and 427 (causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees or over) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
