Haryana Govt to Compensate Citizens for Information on Potholes on Roads

The scheme is aimed at fixing potholes on roads in Haryana. Making a provision for this scheme for the next financial year, the state government has announced the launch of a mobile application called ‘Herpath’.

Haryana government has come up with a unique scheme to compensate the people for giving information about the potholes roads in the state.

The scheme is aimed at fixing potholes on roads in Haryana. Making a provision for this scheme for the next financial year, the state government has announced the launch of a mobile application called ‘Herpath’.

Using this application, the complainant will be able to upload the photograph of the potholed road.

The State Public Works Department will identify the road on the basis of the geo-mapping.

The concerned road contractor will be asked to fix the potholes within a period of 96 hours after a complaint is registered online.

The contractor will be fined Rs 1000 per day in case he fails to repair the road within 96 hours. The complainant will be e given Rs 100 compensation in case the road is not repaired within the given deadline.

This scheme will be operational from April 1, 2020.

It is worth mentioning here that a sizeable chunk of the road accidents in India is caused by the potholed roads.
Haryana is one of the three states including Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, where the highest number of road accidents are caused by potholes.

According to the data released by Road, Transport and Highways Ministry, 2,930 people died and 29,000 others got injured in road accidents due to potholes on roads between 2015 and 2018.

In 2018, 1,043 people died in Uttar Pradesh, 222 in Haryana and 166 in Maharashtra due to accidents caused by potholes on roads.
