VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, three persons died and three others were injured in a road accident near Jalantrakota village under Kanchili Mandal in Srikakulam district. The deceased and the injured persons were coming from Kharagpur in West Bengal to attend the cremation of a relative, who died in the devastating crane accident at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, in which 11 people were killed.
Satish Kumar, the circle inspector of Sompeta, told TOI that the SUV was carrying six persons and they were heading towards their in-laws’ house in Visakhapatnam who died in the crane accident.
“As far as we know, Nogalaku Naglaxmi (50) who died in the road accident is the mother-in-law of one of the deceased in the crane accident. The second woman – Nogalaku Lavanya (23) – is the daughter-in-law of Naglaxmi. The third person, who died in the incident, is the driver of the vehicle – Dwarkanath Routh (25),” added Satish Kumar.
On Saturday, 11 persons died after a crane collapsed inside the Hindustan Shipyard Limited compound in Gandhigram in Visakhapatnam. The newly installed crane was making a trial run with 100% load capacity when the incident took place. One the deceased was identified as Bhaskar Rao, who was a technician and employed with Lead Engineers.
After the information of Bhaskar Rao’s death reached his in-laws’ house in the New Settlement Area in Kharagpur (West Bengal), the Nogalaku family set out for Visakhapatnam around 7pm on Saturday. It was around 5am on Sunday when their car met with the accident near Jalatrakota village on National Highway 16.
“The SUV rammed into a stationary goods carrier from behind and turned upside down. All the three people who died were sitting in the front seat of the vehicle. In all probability, the driver felt sleepy when the accident took place,” said Satish Kumar.
Nagalaxmi’s elder son – Dileshwar (Lavanya’s husband), younger son – Rajsekhar and grandson Aman were also travelling in the same car. Although they received major injures on head, their condition is now stable. Nagalaxmi is an employee of South Eastern Railway.Source: Tmes of India
