Three people, including two women, died and eight others were injured after a collision between a tempo and a truck on the Ludhiana-Khanna national highway about 25 kms from here on Wednesday morning. The deceased included 22-year-old Shakeel and 45-year-old Bala from Muzaffarnagar and 20-year-old Kajal from Meerut.
Police officials said that a tempo carrying eight to nine brick-kiln workers, of whom seven were women, was coming fromUttar Pradesh
and was going to Moga. When the tempo reached nearDoraha
at around 6.15 am, the driver of the vehicle suddenly applied brakes to turn towards the service lane to take the southern bypass route.
Cops said that as the tempo driver applied brakes, driver of the truck, on way from Delhi to Amritsar that was carrying plywood, tried to stop his vehicle but couldn’t. They added that because of the ensuing collision, the vehicles rolled over but before that the labourers in the tempo jumped into air and fell on the road.
Police officials said that two of the labourer women died on the spot and the brother of the driver of the truck also died. They added that eight others also received injuries of which five had serious injuries.
