Minister for Rural Development S.P. Velumani inaugurated a road safety traffic park for school students at Kallar in Mettupalayam here on Wednesday.
A joint venture of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and Roots Group of Companies, the park was inaugurated at Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan International School as part of making the school into a ‘Safety Model School’. According to a release, this is the first ‘Safety Model School’ in Tamil Nadu and seventh in India.
“Through this Safety Model School initiative, our goal is to sensitise and mentor school children on various road safety issues and responsible safety habits,” said Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director, TKM.
K. Ramasamy, Chairman and Managing Director, Roots Group of Companies, recalled in his speech about the people’s road safety initiative Uyir, which was formed to make Coimbatore accident-free.
The Safety Model School was a part of ‘Team Toyota Activity’ (TTA), which aims at developing school students into ‘Road Safety Ambassadors’, the release said. The park will engage students from Class V to Class IX.
Mettupalayam MLA O.K. Chinnaraj; Coimbatore North MLA P.R.G. Arunkumar; M. Jeyasankaran, Joint Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Zone; R.Thiagarajan, Regional Transport Officer; Naveen Soni, Vice-President, TKM; Dr. Kavidasan, Director, Roots Group of Companies and Secretary, Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan International School and S.Chandrasekar, Corporate Director, Roots Group of Companies were present at the event, the release said.
