HYDERABAD: Seven persons were killed in a road accident after a goods vehicle was hit by a lorry on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on Saturday.
According to police, the goods vehicle was carrying 31 migrant labourers who were employed with a road infrastructure firm in Suryapet district. All of them were being sent back to their native place in Karnataka from Suryapet owing to the nationwide lockdown.
During wee hours of Friday, as they entered ORR in the Rachakonda limits in Hayathnagar and were heading towards Shamshabad, a lorry carrying mangoes hit the goods vehicle from the rear side, killing five labourers on the spot. Two others succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
A case has been registered by the Rachakonda police under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code. The Cyberabad police has also directed the Suryapet police to register a case against the infrastructure firm for illegally transporting the migrant labourers during the lock-down period.
