Four friends died in a road accident after the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with another car on Sathyamangalam-Sirumugai road near Rangampalayam in Coimbatore district on Saturday. Three others were injured in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Aravindh Ponnusamy, 26, a resident of Kalikanaickenpalayam, Mohanraj subbaiyan, 47, of Bilichi, P Naveen Kumar, 45, a resident of Veerakeralam and D Rajan, 47, from Thondamuthur.
The injured have been identified as S Suresh, 27, a resident of Thudiyalur, A Belgin, 25, a resident of Sirumugai and N Devanth, 27, a resident of Sirumugai.
On Saturday, the four friends visited Mohanraj’s farmland in Sathyamangalam and while returning, Naveen Kumar was driving the car.
A police officer said, when the vehicle was near Rangampalayam at 9.30pm, it collided head-on with another car.
The officer said that Naveen’s rash and negligent driving was the reason for the accident.
Following the accident, commuters alerted Sirumugai police station and the officials rushed to the spot.
Aravindh, Naveen and Rajan – died on the spot and their bodies were recovered and sent to Mettupalayam government hospital for a post mortem.
Mohanraj was taken to Sathyamangalam government hospital along with the three injured persons.
Mohanraj was declared as ‘dead on arrival’ at the hospital, the official said.
The injured persons are in a stable condition.
A case was registered and further investigations were on.
