At least five people were killed and two others received serious injuries in two road accidents in Supaul district on Tuesday morning.
The first mishap occurred around 6.30 am, when a speeding SUV collided head-on with a bus near Dakahi Ghat under Sadar police station, which resulted in the deaths of three of the car’s five occupants. Hours later, two men on a motorbike were crushed to death by a bus at Jadia. They were identified as Ankit Kumar and Shaurabh Kumar, both residents of Supaul.
The injured in the head-on collision were identified as Arvind Das (40) and Pawan Kumar (28), both residents of Supaul. They were taken to the Supaul Sadar hospital from where they were referred to a Siliguri hospital.
The deceased were identified as Md. Shahid (21), Amit Kumar Singh (25) and Golu Kumar (35). Two of them died at the spot while the third victim succumbed on the way to the sadar hospital.
According to Supaul Sadar SHO Sandip Kumar Singh, the accident took place on the Supaul-Singheshwar Sthan Road when the five were returning to Supaul from a wedding ceremony in Madhepura district in an SUV.
“The car was at a high speed when the driver failed to spot the bus coming from opposite direction as there was poor visibility on the road due to fog,” the SHO said.
He blamed high speed and poor visibility for the accident. Both the bus and the SUV were badly damaged. However, none of the passengers in the bus were injured. The vehicle was carrying members of a wedding party to Madhepura from Supaul.
In another incident, two youths– Ankit Kumar and Shaurabh Kumar–were crushed to death by a speeding bus near Manganj under Jadia police station in the district. The deceased were stated to be residents of Phulkaha village in Supaul district.
